Below a few of the pics we made during our recent summer holidays in August 2005. The trip first went to Jumiege, a small village on the West side of Rouen romantically situated in the valley where the Seine turns towards Rouen and Paris. Our primairy goal was Rouen-les-Essart, the former Formule 1 race track where untill the  '70's races were held. Unfortunately there was nearly nothing left to see. The pits were broken down and at Nouveau Monde we found the remains of the stairs once leading to the Grandstand. The tarmac where once heroes as Jim Clark and Graham Hill fought the dangerous battles is nowadays abused by lost tourists and local population.

But ofcourse there was much more to see and we enjoyed some very nice trips in the Fiat along the shores of the Seine. Unfortunately our holiday pleasure was soon to be spoilt. After some German tourist were robbed and we were molested by some local junks it was about time to leave. While I was packing the tent of some junkies was searched by nearly a dozen police men. It's a pity I didn't think of making some pics of that.....

So our trip was continued to La Roche in the Belgian Ardennes. But again we ran out of luck and we were treated to 2 days of consecutive rain. Fortunately the summer returned quite quickly and it was time again to enjoy. At the Spa Francorchamps race track it was very busy so we could not browse the whole track as I intended. We did however find the famous and incredibely dangerous Masta kink. Just imagine that Formula 1 drivers in the '60's took this narrow chicane with approx. 260km/h.... insane if you imagine the lack of safety standards back then.

Naturally our holidays wasn't all about race tracks alone and we did lots of other nice things too. To enlarge the pics click on them and hit the Back button to return.

A very romantic spot at the Jumiege camping site.

Nouveau Monde- to the right of the stopsign you can see the old stairs to the Grandstand.

Here you can see how tight the corner actually is.

An historic place....

The straight, the former S/F.

It's sad to see the old pit area...

At the background Six Freres and in the foreground the entry to Nouveau Monde.

Nouveau Monde in the sixties.

Fangio in his Maserati in 1957.

The abbey in in St. Martin de Boscherville.

The bear had to be taken out on a strawl.

DESMOND ....

My men....

The Seine.

Rick wanted to visit one of the many war museums in the area.

La Roch, at the back ground you can see the remains of the old castle.

In La Roche again we had a nice spot to camp.

Des is learning every day.

But then...

... the rain came....

... and alone we were on the site...

This couldn't be influenced by our social behaviour could it?

Our kids always know how to behave...

In the middle of the Masta kink.

260km/h along this narrow road... ouch...

Eau Rouge in 1965.

Formula 1 racing in the sixties was dangerous.

Desmond found this very scary.

Rick taking a rest...

... before getting back to work..

Captain Desmond...

Rick would have traded the Fiat for the cool Simca.

It's a guy thing I guess...

Nice shirt for a mom....

Papa...toet toet!!

This is how you look after swallowing a fly...

Back to work...

If you see these clouds in La Roche it's time to pack and leave...

... before everything turns to mud...

But it's a pity though... holiday is just too short!
